Initial release, more info about the project

Hello world!

Racinext is a project that I have been working on for quite some time now. I’m excited to finally share it with you, see how you use it and hear your feedback (Discord).

As the name implies, Racinext is an extension for racing games. It has things like new or improved game modes, UI elements and possibly more stuff in the future. My goal with this project is to give you more ways of enjoying your favorite racing games. At the moment there is one game mode – Drag, and one UI element – map.

Please note that the project has just been released and may contain some bugs. Of course I will try to fix them as soon as possible after they are discovered.

Supported games

Currently the only supported game is Forza Horizon 4, and support for Forza Horizon 5 will most likely come short after its launch.

I am thinking about adding support for more games, hence the name of the project. But first I’d like to hear your thoughts on this, as I’m not sure if other games are suited for this kind of extension, and if it’s something the community would want.

What’s to come

What I’ve created so far is only a small part of what I have planned. I don’t want to make any promises but here are some of the things I have in mind.

Expanding the already included Drag mode

Drift mode

Customizable score calculation system
Custom drift zones
Different competitions – highest score, biggest angle, longest drift etc.

Other game modes

For example Cops & Robbers or Hide & Seek

Role-playing mode

Money system separate from the in-game credits
Payout rules (for example per period of time spent in RP or per distance driven)
Jobs
Properties
Car licenses (per class or performance index)
Buying cars with RP money (but you would still have to buy them with in-game credits)

It could be played solo or in multiplayer. Multiplayer would probably be based on communities that can be created and joined.

Some of the jobs I had in mind:

Taxi driver
Something similar to Crazy Taxi – picking up (virtual) passengers and driving them to destination.

Trader
Something similar to Big Mutha Truckers – buying low, selling high, driving between markets, limited storage in car.

Garbage truck driver
Keeping garbage cans around the map or in some area empty.

Treasure hunter
Finding treasures using a scanner.

Cop
Measuring other players’ speed with a speed gun;
Maybe trader would have an option to trade prohibited goods and cops would have a chance to detect these goods when passing by.

Most of the jobs could actually be made into game modes playable on their own. Maybe even with multiplayer and some competition.

Tools

Acceleration time measurement (0-100 time etc.)
Brake distance measurement

UI elements (widgets)

Telemetry indicators (drift angle, G-force, throttle/break input, power, torque etc.)
Custom speedometers

Spotify integration

I’m not sure about this as it may not be compliant with the Spotify Developer Policy.

And more things, like:

  • Improvements to the UI/UX;
  • Improvements to the multiplayer system (easier joining, friends system…);
  • And of course your suggestions.

There are a lot of possibilities. I would love to explore all of them, but as you can probably imagine, it will require a lot of work. If you would like to support this project, check out my Patreon. Supporters will have direct input into the project’s development. I look forward to hearing your feedback and implementing the above-mentioned features, as well as features requested by the community.
